Description

Enjoyable and inspirational painting weekend designed to help beginners & enthusiasts gain experience in painting with Oils or Acrylics, whilst also supporting more advanced painters to develop their skills and techniques. No previous experience necessary.

Price for full 2 day workshop: £25 (£20 Concession rate*)

We can also offer a limited number of 1 day bookings for people wishing to attend either the Saturday or Sunday. Please contact: events@grantonhub.org

Price for 1 day workshop: £12.50 (£10 Concession rate*)

It is recommended to bring your own pack lunch. Tea & Coffee is privided free of charge. Generally lunch breaks last for half an hour, though you can decide & take how many breaks you like.


Painting for Pleasure workshop is designed for adults of all ages and abilities. From beginners to art enthusiasts interested to learn new or practice existing skills in your perfered painting meduim.

The Painting for Pleasure weekend will help you get started, giving time and space to develop your creative talent and support your painting project(s) through till compilation.

Painting for Pleasure weekend workshop is tutored by local artist Gareth Hutchison.

One-To-One tutoring from local artist Gareth Hutchison with helpful techniques, expert advice and creative support in the relaxing and friendly environment of Madelvic House.

  • Painting for Pleasure course will give you the support needed to help you get started and develop your creative talent and painting projects.

  • For beginners interested to learn the fundamental skills of drawing & painting with practical guildance.

  • For art enthusiasts & advanced in painting wishing to continue developing techniques and further skill sets.

  • Practice at your own leisure or just relax in a creative and friendly space.

  • Work, chat and enjoy a creative activity within a group of supportive people.

  • Work on your own art projects that further develop interest and passion.

Focusing mainly on oil & acrylic painting, we will explore colour mixing, painting layout, natural representation, painting with perspective, application techniques and composition. The workshop will you the chance to freely explore the subject of painting, aesthetics and visual language over the two days.

Materials needed: Gareth can provide some basic materials when and if required on the first day. Easels & boards are also provided. Though it is recommend to bring your own watercolour A3 pad or canvas (of any practical size) and acrylics paints or oils and a range of brushes and oil paints.

Art Projects: Bring your own projects or themes to work on each day. Gareth will help you every step of the way and support any projects you wish to try. If your unsure, Gareth can provide the subject material or suggest project ideas & advice to help you get started. Project themes or subject matter can range from still life, portraits and people, landscapes/seascapes, cityscapes, buildings, boats, nature, abstract to realist etc.

Gareth Hutchison is fully qualified and practising artist, with over 10 years of experience successfully teaching both adult education art courses and private classes. The new Granton:Hub weekend painting course has been developed as a self-directed art program, working at your own pace to build your confidence, deciding on your own themes and art materials.

Wheelchair Access: Madelvic House has limited access for Wheelchair users. Although granton:hub takes every step to be inclusive and accessible to all members of the public. Currently, granton:hub at Madelvic House (B-listed building) can not guarantee ease of use or full access to all wheelchair users without further additional changes being made to the front door and toilet areas of building.
