An online workshop exploring the quirks of seventeenth and eighteenth century handwriting and teaching the skills to read historic documents

About this event

Aimed at beginners with little or no experience. This fun online workshop uses documents from the archives to explore the quirks of seventeenth and eighteenth century handwriting.

We will discuss the changes in how people learnt to read and the impact that had on the records they left behind.

You will learn the basics of how to read and transcribe documents through numerous stunning examples and hands on practice.

This workshop will be delivered via Zoom. You will receive joining details the week before the event and will receive any relevant materials needed via email.

We offer a wide range of services including using archives in our searchrooms, our Research Service, The West Riding Registry of Deeds, learning and community support, and conservation and preservation advice.
