The attendee will understand the principles of caring for the person in the last year of their life

ONLY FOR - Sutton Health and Care Staff and Primary Care Staff Working in Sutton

Part 1: Communication skills for all - Identifying good communication, effective listening Understanding the message, barriers to effective communication.

Part 2: Principles of the last year of life - Dying for beginners – focused discussion “how does this make me feel?” Identifying the last year of life, legislation, disease progression and our role in the community.

Part 3: Identifying active dying - Caring for the dying person and their family at home, Symptom management, medicines used for end of life care, Syringe driver use, DNAR, Verification of death, after death care.

Part 4: Reviewing the day - Points of communication skills, What does dying mean to us?
