At a time when the truth is under attack—both physically and online—Jon Williams of the Rory Peck Trust leads a timely discussion exploring whether AI can be a solution, not merely a problem. A panel of experts explore the current issues and practical fixes, for both newsrooms and their audiences.

Jon Williams is Executive Director Rory Peck Trust and a three-time Emmy Award-winning editor and storyteller. He became Executive Director of the Rory Peck Trust in 2024 after serving as Managing Director of RTÉ News. Previously, Jon was the BBC’s Foreign Editor for seven years, overseeing coverage of the Arab Spring and the war in Afghanistan. He managed more than 200 journalists in over 30 countries, winning the International Emmy for coverage of the Israel–Hezbollah war and an Emmy for reporting from Syria. He later moved to New York as Managing Editor of ABC News, the Walt Disney Company’s news division, where he directed global newsgathering and won a third Emmy for coverage of the Syrian refugee crisis. Earlier in his career, he was the BBC’s UK News Editor, where he relaunched Britain’s most-watched news programme, the Six O’Clock News. In addition to his work with Rory Peck, Jon also serves on the boards of the Committee to Protect Journalists in New York, where he chairs its Journalists Assistance Committee, and UK for UNHCR, the British foundation for the UN Refugee Agency.

Georgina Lee is the FactCheck and Data News Editor at Channel 4 News – calling politicians of all stripes to account and using data to unpick the toughest policy problems of the day. In 2023, she gave evidence at the Commons Digital, Culture, Media and Sport committee’s inquiry on misinformation and trusted voices. In a previous life, she was policy advisor at the Treasury.

Dr. Manny Ahmed Founder & CEO OpenOrigins has been on a mission to build evidentiary value back into media for his entire career. As part of his PhD at the University of Cambridge, he designed the underlying technology that OpenOrigins is built on. He received his Masters from ETH Zurich and has previously worked at RKVST and nCipher Security, and has built anonymous whistleblowing tools for news organizations.
