Panel Talk:
‘Why Raw Clay? Reclaiming the tactile, the collective, and the immediacy in art practice.’
Join us at ASC Art House for this panel discussion, chaired by acclaimed researcher, writer and curator Tessa Peters, where we explore why raw clay was chosen as a central medium for this exhibition.
Curator and participating sculptors from Clay in vivo will reflect on the unique challenges and possibilities of working with a material that resists permanence and transforms over time. Together, they will examine clay’s capacity to engage diverse audiences through sensory immediacy, cultural resonance, and social inclusivity.
The conversation will centre on the outcomes of recent workshops and live performances, highlighting how raw clay fosters collaboration, experimentation, and deep personal connection.
Audience members are warmly invited to participate and share their own perspectives.
Tessa Peters is Senior Lecturer in the history and theory of art and design and part of CREAM’s Ceramics Research Centre. In her curatorial practice she employs insights from critical theory to explore the narrative and emotional charge of art and design artefacts.
