Panorama of the Congo: A VR experience

Step into a virtual world where you can explore the Panorama of the Congo exhibit, a 115 by 14metres painting commissioned by King Leopold II in 1913 to 'dazzle' visitors about their colonial exploits in the Congo Free State (Democratic Republic of the Congo). The VR exhibition is accompanied by narrations that challenge and provoke alternative interpretations of the painting taking into account indigenous experiences of Belgian Occupation, photographic evidence of the said occupation and alternative paintings that showcase the Congo from an indigenous artists lens. There will also be an opportunity to engage in discussion with the researchers at the exhibition site and during a seminar led by the researchers on the 15th of October at 3pm HBS (Room TBC). This event will be held at the University of Manchester Students' Union Theatre, so grab your friends and get ready for an unforgettable journey. Don't miss out on this unique opportunity to see the Congo like never before!
