Event description

Description

The pre-Christmas Lecture and Lunch event will take place in the splendid and always welcoming venue of Headlam Hall, built by Henry Birkbeck and his wife Anne at the turn of the 17th century.

Variety, spectacle, cross-dressing, well known stories and audience participation - the ingredients for the most popular of theatrical traditions - the Pantomime. The lecture will be given by Laurence Sach, a well-known local figure in the theatrical world. He writes as a drama critic for the Northern Echo as well as directing productions for the Castle Players of Barnard Castle. Tracing its origins, influences and development through the centuries, he will provide a lively insight into this enduring seasonal entertainment.
