Paola Antonelli, On Curating
We're very happy to kick off our 2017 event programme with a talk from the brilliant and fascinating Paola Antonelli.
As Senior Curator of Architecture & Design + Director of R&D at New York’s Museum of Modern Art, Paola Antonelli doesn’t see a museum as an institute for housing ancient relics. For her it is a living, breathing part of society, somewhere to explore ideas and have conversations about pertinent topics such as design and violence. Through her work she has caused controversy by daring to declare that video games are art and has pushed expectations of what museums and exhibitions can be with every exhibition she curates.
We’re honoured to welcome Paola to give a talk in London about her work at MoMA, her approach to curating and more specifically the up coming exhibition Items: Is Fashion Modern? It is a show that explores the present, past, and future of 99 items — garments, accessories, and accoutrements — that have had a strong impact on history and society in the 20th and 21st centuries, and continue to hold currency today.
