Join us on an exploration of campus discovering the vivid work of Sir Eduardo Paolozzi, widely regarded as the ‘father of pop art’. Paolozzi’s association with the University of Birmingham began in 1996, when he was awarded an honorary degree. This and the resulting relationship with the University Curator led to a series of generous gifts, ranging from Faraday, the monumental sculpture marking the University’s centenary to early collage series BUNK! to later photolithograph works such as Calcium Light Night. His work is displayed across campus and we will explore these spaces taking in a range of work and following the development of his practice, his life, passions and influences.
The tour will start at 12.45, and the meeting point is the ‘Old Joe’ Clock Tower. Please arrive at 12.35 to ensure that the tour can start promptly.
This tour is part of a wider programme of campus tours Curators and Connections: behind the scenes tours of the Research and Cultural Collections, for further details please see the eventbrite pages.
