Event description

Description

THIS IS A 5 WEEK EVENING COURSE

WEDNESDAYS 13th SEPTEMBER - 11th OCTOBER

6:30pm - 9:00pm

Explore the exciting process of screen printing onto paper on this 5 week introductory course. You will be guided step-by-step through the process and will develop your confidence as an independent screen printer. You will learn how to register and layer your designs, and print with multiple colours. By the end of the course, you will be able to use various stencil making techniques and understand their effects. You will gain an understanding of the photo stencil emulsion technique and will learn how to coat and expose screens. Your tutor will also introduce you to relevant contextual artists and screen printing terminology.

What experience do I need?

No previous experience is necessary. The course is for beginners or anyone looking to refresh their skills. Those with previous experience may use the course to develop their skills and become familiar with the facilities at our workshop.

What will I make?

You will produce a series of multi layer screen prints of up to A3 size. There is the option to create graphic or fine art prints as well as greetings cards. Your tutor can show you lots of examples of screen prints at your first session to help you understand the different possibilities.

Who is my tutor?

Kirstie Williams is a founding member of Leeds Print Workshop. She is a practising designer and printmaker, creating both textile and paper based work.

She studied MA Textile Design at Chelsea College of Art in 2010 and completed a PGCE teaching qualification at the University of Huddersfield in 2014. Kirstie previously worked as an Associate Lecturer for Short Courses at Leeds College of Art, primarily teaching in adult education. She is passionate about bringing together a new creative community in Leeds through the running and development of Leeds Print Workshop.

Do I need to bring anything?

All materials are provided; this will include cartridge paper, a range of ink colours, photo sensitive emulsion and all the equipment needed to make screen prints. The workshop also sells a range of printmaking papers should you wish to try something different. Prices range from £1 - £2.20 per sheet. There is also the opportunity to purchase additional screen exposures should you wish to produce more than two designs. One A3 screen coating costs £2.50.

You may find it useful to bring along an A3 folder to carry your prints home with you.

If I can't attend can I get a refund?

We will refund you in full if you cancel no less than 14 days before the start of the first session of the course.

What if the course is cancelled?

We reserve the right to cancel the course for any reason (for example, insufficient bookings). We will endeavour to give at least 7 days notice if the course is cancelled and in the event of cancellation we will, of course, issue you a full refund.

Please note: we regret that, for safety reasons, only those over the age of 16 will be permitted to undertake the course.
