Event description

Description

12th July 2019 marks the 100 year anniversary of some women receiving the right to vote in Jersey for the very first time. It was also the first time that all men received the vote - and so a hugely important moment in our democratic history for both women and men. Women in Politics want to use this year to remember the trailblazing suffragettes who fought so hard to gain women this important right and also to look forward to increasing participation and representation of women from across our Island community in our States Assembly.

It is with pleasure, therefore, that we invite everyone - women, men and children - to join us for our celebratory parade through St Helier on Saturday 13th July 2019. There'll be a few surprises along the way helping to make it a celebration of which we hope the suffragettes would be proud!

So do grab a banner, add a splash of white, purple or green (the suffragettes' colours) and join us at 2pm outside the Town Hall on Seale Street. The parade will finish about 20 minutes later in the Royal Square where we will be entertained by the wonderful choirs Vocalize, St Mary's Primary School and Concordia. We'll also hear from a number of inspirational speakers, including Charlotte Valeur, Chair of the Institute of Directors and high profile champion of equality in the workplace.

If you are planning to join us, it would be very helpful if you would take a minute to register on Eventbrite to help us keep track of numbers.
