Event description

Description

This one day course is an introduction to Pivotal Response Therapy (PRT) for parents.

PRT is an evidence-based intervention derived from Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) first established in the 1980s by Drs Robert and Lynne Koegel. Rather than focusing on individual behaviours, PRT targets pivotal areas of a child's development, such as motivation, responding to multiple cues and initiating social interactions. By targeting these pivotal areas, PRT supports children to make collaterol improvements across other communication, social, and behavioural areas. PRT is used to teach language, promote social, communication and academic skills and reduce challenging behaviours. The National Research Foundation in the United States considers PRT one of the few evidence-based approaches for children with ASDs.

PRT is one of the best researched interventions for supporting children with ASD and other communication challenges to learn to speak. This course is an introduction to PRT for parents of young children with ASD or other communication challenges and will focus on capturing motivation, developing language and communication skills and how to teach your child through play.

This course will be delivered by Dr Ruth Glynne-Owen, EdD, founder and CEO of the Blue Sky Autism Project.
