Overview

Support your child’s independence in dressing & self-care with practical strategies, sensory tips, and fun, confidence-building activities.

Dear Parents! Welcome to our Parent Workshop on Dressing and Grooming. In this session, you will learn how to support your child in becoming more independent with everyday self-care routines such as getting dressed, managing fastenings, brushing teeth, and washing hair. We will explore the skills children need for dressing, including balance, coordination, fine motor ability, and body awareness, as well as the role of motivation, practice, and sensory tolerance. Together, we will look at practical strategies like using visuals, breaking tasks into smaller steps, forward or backward chaining, and making tasks fun with games and rewards. We will also discuss sensory-friendly clothing and ways to make grooming tasks more comfortable. By the end of the workshop, you will leave with simple, practical tools to help your child build independence and confidence in dressing and personal care.
