What are the barriers and enablers for parental engagement and can doing it effectively narrow the poverty-related attainment gap
About this event
How big a driver is parental engagement in narrowing the poverty-related attainment gap? What are the barriers and enablers to embedding and sustaining parental engagement in Early Learning Centre's and primary schools? Come along and hear Save the Children Scotland share their learning from piloting the parental engagement Whole Settings Approach project across four settings (primary schools with nurseries attached). This event will focus on two of the four components of the Whole Settings Approach: Families Connect which is an 8-week parental engagement programme to support a child's learning and development for 3 - 6 year olds; and a parental engagement CPD (continuous professional development) for teachers. The session will focus on the delivery of the project and it's impact.
The session will comprise a panel presentation led by:
• Jane Halliday, Development Advisor, Save the Children UK
• Nikoloas Bizas, Senior Evidence and Learning Adviser, Save the Children UK
• Lucy Williams, Senior Early Years Adviser, Save the Children UK
About this series of events
Save the Children's Learning Network is part of the organisation's work to share our insights about effective place-based and partnership working across and beyond the early years sector. Our intention is to build a network of Save the Children staff, local partners and colleagues working on similar projects across the UK and abroad in order to:
• Enable others to create change for children in their local area
• Help identify the shared challenges that need action beyond local areas
• Create networks and allies to advocate for wider change
