About this event

The Mental Health Support Team (MHST) works with children, their families and schools across Camden to support the wellbeing of young people. We aim to help children stay emotionally well or resolve problems before they become overwhelming. We provide this support in different ways; for example, through meeting one to one with children and parents, or via groups, workshops and parent coffee mornings. Much of our support focuses on helping children manage their worries, improve their mood and foster healthy relationships.

Due to the current Coronavirus situation, these workshops will be delivered via the online forum Zoom.

As this is a challenging and uncertain time for many families, we have created four workshops for parents which we hope will cover a range of topics that you will find helpful at this time. Each one-hour workshop will provide a space for discussion, learning and sharing.

1. Introduction to the Mental Health Support Team: Why Early Intervention Matters?

Option A: Wednesday 20th January, 5pm evening or

Option B: Wednesday 24th February, 5pm evening

This workshop we will share some interesting information related to child mental health and discuss why early intervention matters. We will also tell you more about Camden’s MHST and what support you and/or your child can access; such as individual and group interventions for low mood, worries as well as transitions and changes. We will also give you an overview of what other early intervention support is available across the Camden area.

2. Promoting Parent Self-Care

Thursday 21st January, 12pm midday

This workshop will provide thoughts and ideas on the importance of self-care for you and your family. We will discuss new tools and techniques to use at home and there will be space for parents to share their experiences of self-care, including barriers that you might have come across and overcome.

3. Understanding & Supporting your Child with Worries

Option A: Wednesday 27th January, 5pm evening or

Option B: Thursday 28th January 12pm midday

This workshop provides information on common worries in childhood and what to do when children find worries difficult to manage. The group will also provide a forum to discuss every day worries and helpful strategies that parents can use to support children to manage their feelings.

4. Routines

Thursday 4th February, 12 pm midday

This workshop will be focused on children under 13’s sleep. We will discuss ideas around sleep and how much sleep we should be getting, helpful tips to ensure your child is getting the best nights sleep, and it will provide a space for parents to share and discuss any concerns they may have.

5. Parent/Carer and Child Interactions

Thursday 11th February, 12 pm midday

This workshop will share ideas on how to spend quality time with your child to help foster attachment and greater security during periods of uncertainty.

Each session will last approximately 60 minutes and there will be a further 20 minutes for discussion and questions for those who are interested.

Please Note: These workshops have been created for a universal audience. The content of the webinars may be of interest to families with mild concerns around well-being, relationships and behaviours. There will be opportunities for open discussion, however, if you have concerns about your child's wellbeing which you would like to discuss privately then please contact your school's SENDCo and we can arrange a meeting or signpost you to another agency that can help.

Once you have booked your ticket, a zoom link to the webinar will be visible on Eventbrite 24hrs before. Please look out for notifications.

Please take a note of the webinar date/s you would like to attend to book tickets in the next section.
