Parenting the Child with Autism
Event Information
Description
Helping parents to understand their children with autism and to manage their behaviour will have significant benefits to social inclusion, quality of life, educational achievement, employment and equality of opportunity. Whilst we see parent education programmes in Western Europe and the USA, there is little availability in many areas within Europe, for example in the Balkan/Eastern Mediterranean region.
Join us as we showcase the ESIPP (Equity and Social Inclusion through Positive Parenting) project which aims to address this inequality of provision.
We also welcome Debby Elley, founder of "Aukids" a magazine for promoting positive parenting for children with ASD. A parent of two boys on the spectrum herself, Debby will "focus entirely on the things that I wish I'd been taught that you don't hear in other autism talks"
To complete the day Meike Illing-Whitby of ThriveOT will present "Motor Coordination differences in children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)". Learn about motor differences in Autism Spectrum Disorder. Learn strategies to help support your child to improve their motor coordination skills and accessing everyday activities across self-care, school and leisure activities. Get ideas for exercises and activities you can do at home.
