About this event
The Engaging Parents in the Review of Their Care Following the Death of Their Baby session is a 90-minute online workshop designed to support healthcare professionals in understanding how to meaningfully involve bereaved parents in the review of their care following the death of their baby.
The session highlights the importance of listening to parents’ experiences to inform service improvement and support emotional healing. Involving parents in reviews isn’t just about learning lessons—it's also about acknowledging their loss and recognising the value of their voices in shaping better care.
Participants will explore the principles of trauma-informed care and how psychological trauma can affect a parent’s ability to engage. The workshop will offer guidance on how to create emotionally safe spaces and build trusting relationships that allow for sensitive, respectful involvement at every stage.
We will also introduce the PMRT (Perinatal Mortality Review Tool) Parental Engagement Tool—a practical resource to help guide communication, gather feedback, and share outcomes compassionately and clearly.
Throughout the workshop, case studies will be used to support interactive learning, allowing participants to apply their knowledge to real-world scenarios. These reflective discussions will encourage confidence, empathy, and ethical awareness when working with bereaved families.
During the workshop, participants will:
› Understand the value and impact of involving parents in the review of their care
› Explore how trauma-informed approaches can support safe and sensitive parental involvement
› Learn how to use the PMRT Parental Engagement Tool to guide effective and compassionate communication
› Apply learning through case studies that reflect real-world practice
› Build confidence in supporting parents with empathy, clarity, and respect
Following the workshop, participants will receive:
› A copy of the presentation slides and key learning points
› Links to helpful tools, templates, and further reading
