As the international community celebrates the fifth anniversary of the Paris Agreement, V4SDG is organizing a unique, online event to reiterate the importance of committing to the global fight against climate change from a regional perspective. During this high-level discussion you can hear from the representatives of civil-society, youth and business as well as from the governmental sector.
Among our confirmed panelists we are happy to welcome:
- Dr Barbara Botos, Deputy Secretary of State for Climate Action, Ministry for Innovation and Technology, Hungary
- Ms Anelia Stefanova, Program Director, CEE Bankwatch Network
- Mr Vladislav Kaim, Member. Youth Advisory Group on Climate Change to the UN Secretary General
- Dr Martin Porter, Executive Chair, Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership (CISL), Brussels
The discussion will be moderated by Ms Krisztina Zálnoky, Co-founder of V4SDG.
Achieving sustainability is the most burning challenge of the 21st century, but it is also a unique chance for the Visegrad Group and Central Eastern Europe to demonstrate leadership and weigh in on the right side of history.
The central aim of the Paris Agreement is to strengthen the global response to the threat of climate change by keeping a global temperature rise this century well below 2 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels and to pursue efforts to limit the temperature increase even further to 1.5 degrees Celsius. For the first time the Agreement brings all nations into a common cause to undertake ambitious efforts to combat climate change and adapt to its effects, with enhanced support to assist developing countries to do so. As such, it charts a new course in the global climate effort.
On 23-24 September 2020, V4SDG held the Budapest Sustainability Exchange - its first strategic forum on sustainable development in Central Eastern Europe. The conference brought together key agents of change from the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia and beyond to brainstorm on the theme of ’competitive sustainability’. Now, it is time to continue the discussion. During the event, together with our invited experts, we will discuss how to accelerate the implementation of SDG13, as well as the wider concept of sustainability, in the Visegrad Group.
