About this event

Bath & North East Somerset Council, supported by Bradford on Avon Town Council is hosting this event for Town and Parish Councils in the district, to help them plan and take action on climate change and ecological issues in the way that is most appropriate to their area and spheres of influence.

Town and parish councils have a unique position through which they can stimulate grassroots action, set a leadership example and provide a local, accountable focal point for practical action in their area.

Who is it for:

Parish Councillors, Town and Parish Council clerks and officers.

This opportunity is for both councils who are just beginning to start thinking about climate change, and those councils who have formally declared a climate emergency and are in the action planning phase.

What the event will include:

1. Introduction to the climate emergency and the scale of action now needed.

2. Facilitated workshops on understanding local impacts, communicating with your residents, and building an action plan.

3. Online conference 'Exhibition Hall' with stalls from local advice providers, projects and schemes that can help you.

4. Networking and ideas sharing opportunities, allowing with 1:1 informal meetings with other parish councillors and clerks from the area.

A virtual event

The event will be run online via the events platform Hopin (https://hopin.to/) and you will be pleased to hear that there are breaks scheduled in throughout the day.

The event is being delivered by the Centre for Sustainable Energy (CSE) on behalf of Bath & North East Somerset Council, in partnership with Bradford on Avon Town Council as part of both Councils' Climate Emergency programmes.

"An informative day hearing ideas other local people have implemented successfully, and ones which should be possible to complete moving forward." (Declan Shiels)
"The message has become easier to understand; it’s personal and effective and relevant to parish councils, as we can, and should, act as ambassadors and role models.
I thought the conference day itself was very well planned and engaging. There was opportunity to meet up with other attendees and plenty of comfort breaks. The only thing that was missing was the Danish pastries!" (Gill Lungley)
