Event description
A workshop to give local leaders the knowledge and practical support you need to tackle the climate emergency in your communities.

About this Event

Last year’s declaration by Oxford City Council of a climate emergency and the subsequent Citizens’ Assembly have made it clearer than ever that we in Oxford and the surrounding area must take action to avoid catastrophic climate change.

With such an overwhelming challenge it can often be hard to know where to start. Join local experts and leaders to share knowledge about the climate emergency and discuss practical steps that Parish Councils and community groups can take to tackle climate change in their local areas.

  • Lord Mayor of Oxford - briefing on climate crisis (TBC)
  • Gavin Killip, Environmental Change Institute
  • Sujith Kollamthodi, Practice Director Policy, Strategy & Economics of Ricardo Energy & Environment

Session 2 - Briefing on the Oxford Citizens’ Assembly

  • Councillor Tom Hayes – outcomes and next steps for the Citizens’ Assembly

Session 3 - Help, support and advice for Parish Councils and community groups

  • Low Carbon Hub
  • Oxfordshire Community Action Groups Project
  • Naturehood
  • Talking Shop

Session 4Addressing climate change locally

  • Case Study: North Hinksey Parish Council’s climate initiatives
  • A breakout session facilitated by Oxford Friends of the Earth to address local issues and decide on practical next steps.
