Event description

Description

As Christians, living the 21st century,

  • how do we care for the earth?

  • How do we live more simply so that others may simply live?

  • How do we show our solidarity with poor people both at home and across the world?

Many of us are not sure where to start – the questions just seem too difficult for an individual or family to take on.

To find out more about what you can do personally and as part of a parish or church community then come along to our family-oriented, interactive workshop.

The Live Simply Award scheme, managed by CAFOD, provides wonderful opportunities for both individuals and parish communities to reflect more deeply about their faith, and particularly how they care for the earth and care for the poor. It calls people to both personal action and parish action to put their faith into practise.

You don't have to sign up to the award scheme to come along! - Just come along if you want to find out what you individually and your church or parish community can do to help build a better world where we live more in harmony with our environment and live in solidarity with poor people.

Our venue is the only parish in the Leeds Diocese to have obtained this award. Meet some of the people from both St Benedict's and from other parishes in different parts of the country who have obtained this award. Find out what they did and think about the things you could do in your own parish. It is not a 'tickbox exercise' - it is a process that needs to involve all areas of parish life over a long period as well as encouraging individuals to change the way in which they think about their responsibilities towards the poor and towards the earth.

Could your parish be the next one to work towards this award?

As well as a main programme for adults there will be a separate stream of activities for young people aged 8-15 and limited creche facilities for children under 8.

A simple lunch will be provided for everyone.

St Benedict's is easy to get to whether you come by public transport or by car. However, if you need help with transportation there is the opportunity to request a lift as part of the registration process. We cannot guarantee anything but we will do our best.
