Event description

Description

Skateboarding is an amazing activity - with great links across culture, art, design and healthy lifestyles, with an incredible sense of community - but it's still quite male-dominated. There's been a huge increase in the number of women and girls skating worldwide, and we'd like to help more women get into skating in Nottingham - with our free mentored sessions with trained female coaches (Level 1 Award in Coaching Skateboard Sessions, plus DBS and Child Safeguarding certification). These free sessions, supported by the Park Lives programme in Nottingham, will encourage female skaters of all ages (8+) and abilities to skate together, push their skateboarding, learn from each other and have fun. If you've never skated before and would like to give it a go, we have 6 complete skateboards and helmets to loan, and can take you through the very basics. Please reserve a place in advance to avoid disappointment.

If you are under 18, you will need to wear a helmet - please bring one if you have your own (a cycle helmet is fine). Please also wear appropriate footwear - ideally trainers or any other kind of sports or gym shoes, or canvas shoes (e.g. Vans or similar, etc.). Unfortunately if you have inappropriate footwear (sandals, flip-flops, crocs, ballet-slippers, heeled shoes or wedges) you will not be able to take part as this will significantly increase risk of injury.

These sessions will take place every Sunday for 5 weeks, starting on the 2nd of July at mid-day (12.00pm) for 1 1/2 hours. We will only cancel in the event of wet weather - as it is dangerous to skate on wet ground, and it ruins equipment - please follow our Facebook page for updates. www.facebook.com/skatenottingham
