Event description

Ever fancied giving rowing a go?

Parr's Priory's annual novice regatta is taking place on Saturday 27th July. No rowing experience is necessary - our experienced club members, coaches and coxes will give you all of the help you need.

For the price of £80 per team, you'll get one training session before the event, where you'll learn rowing technique on rowing machines, in our bespoke rowing tank and, of course, on the river itself. On the day of the regatta, you'll get at least two races, and even if you don't manage to get the glory of a pewter tankard at the end - there's always the fancy dress competition. This year's theme is 'Battle of the Bands', so whether your crew wants to be Bowie or the Beatles, ABBA or Iron Maiden, we can't wait to see you.

Your crew can enter one of three categories*:

Men's IV

Women's IV

Mixed IV (2 men, 2 women)

*If you are unsure of which category to enter, don't worry - we'll help you!

We do allow each crew to have one experienced rower if they wish!

Rowing is a fantastic sport and we are all about having fun and making it accessible to all. We can't wait to welcome you to our friendly club.

Are there minimum age requirements to enter the event?

You must be over 18 to enter

How do I get to the boathouse?

Don't trust your sat nav - it will take you to the sports centre, which is about a 10 minute walk away. Head along the Embankment next to the river - the boathouse is directly opposite Fulham Football Club on the other side.

Do I have to be fit?

Not particularly - this is a fun regatta, so you don't need to be an elite athlete to enter! However, we do require that participants be able to swim 100m unaided.

I've never rowed before and I'm a bit scared!

You've come to the right place. That's what this regatta is all about. We'll be training you on land beforehand using our rowing machines and bespoke rowing 'tank' (training sessions will run Monday-Thursday the week of the regatta), before going out on the river. You'll have a very experienced coach and cox with you, and we can handle all sorts of nerves and questions.

Tell me more about the training sessions?

It's important that your crew has a small amount of training before the regatta itself in order for you to know the basics of rowing and for you to be able to respond to the cox's calls on the day. For this reason, we're running training sessions on Monday 22nd, Tuesday 23rd, Wednesday 24th and Thursday 25th from 7.30-9pm at Barn Elms boathouse.

What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the event?

Barn Elms boathouse is located on the towpath between Putney and Hammersmith Bridges, around a 15 minute walk from either. There is limited parking available on Putney Embankment, but it can become very busy at the weekend, so we would recommend using public transport.

What can I bring into the event?

We will be running a barbeque on the day and selling drinks (with contactless payment available). There are a limited number of lockers available in the men's and women's changing rooms (which take a refundable £1 coin), but we would advise against bringing anything valuable to the event. Parr's Priory Rowing Club cannot be held responsible for any items that go missing during the event.

How can I contact the organiser with any questions?

You can contact us through this Eventbrite page or at parrsnoviceregatta@gmail.com and a member of the organising committee will get back to you.

What's the refund policy?

Refunds are available up to 7 days before the event.

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

No - we'll know it's you.

Is my registration fee or ticket transferrable?

You can change your crew members around until the week of the race - as long as we know who is rowing a week before.
