Event description
Join us to celebrate the restart of the Large Hadron Collider and the ten-year anniversary of the Higgs Boson Discovery at A-Level event

About this event

This year marks the restart of the Large Hadron Collider after extensive upgrades, and the ten year anniversary of the discovery of the Higgs Boson. STFC Rutherford Appleton Laboratory is holding a special 1-day particle physics masterclass on Monday, 4 July to celebrate.

The Particle Physics Masterclass is a one day events for sixth form students and their teachers, run by particle physics researchers. These classes provide excellent support for the material on Particle Physics which is in many 16+ curricula.

The Masterclasses at Rutherford Appleton Laboratory (RAL) provide the chance to hear talks by leading Particle Physicists from RAL and CERN, tour one of our particle accelerators (the ISIS Neutron and Muon Source) and use data from the Large Hadron Collider to find a Higgs Boson with staff from RAL’s prestigious Particle Physics Department. Programmes, photos and lectures from previous years can be found on the RAL Masterclass website.

In addition to a number of in-person places, we will be broadcasting the talks and tours over Zoom, so students can join independently or from their classrooms. Spaces at the in-person event are limited: all schools will be contacted by Friday 27 May to let them know whether they have been allocated places in person. All people registering will be able to attend the event over Zoom.

If you have any questions, please contact us at visitral@stfc.ac.uk.
