Event description

Description

Event Aims: As part of an on-going collaborative research project involving partners from the University of Gloucestershire, the University of Bath, Manchester Metropolitan University, and the Alliance of Sport in Criminal Justice, the event is intended to bring together practitioners from across the sport and criminal justice sector to share perceptions and best practice concerning the role of partnerships in the delivery of effective intervention projects. Four speakers, all of whom are vastly experienced in delivering sport and physical activity projects in the criminal justice sector, will present and provide a different perspective on ‘partnership’ as it relates to their experience.

Proposed Schedule:

9.30am: Arrival (Tea/Coffee)

10am: Welcome and Introductions

10.30am: Speaker 1: The Individual Perspective (Tanayah Sam) - a former prisoner, using his hindsight to reflect on what partnerships helped him the most on his distance journey.

11.15am: Comfort break (Tea/Coffee refresh)

11.30am: Speaker 2: The Community Perspective (Nick Burke) – Reflections on the Salford Lifestyle Centre. Run by a 400-strong cooperative of volunteers, the Centre is a place where the community of Salford, including many ex-offenders, can meet, learn, work and have fun – all for free.

12.15pm: Networking Lunch

1pm: Speaker 3: The Multi-Agency Perspective (Lucy Donovan) – Reflections on Positive Futures Gwent, which has impacted on young people’s behaviour in the most disadvantaged areas of south-east Wales by harnessing the potential in local communities and the ‘power of sport’.

1.45pm: Speaker 4: The Prison Perspective – reflections from a Senior Manager (Sports) from HMP/YOI Parc, a Closed Category prison for adults, juveniles and young offenders.

2.30pm: Facilitated focus group discussions

3.15pm: Closing Thoughts and Thanks

3.30pm: END
