Headline artist Passenger (Stage time 2100-2230)

A lot has happened since Mike Rosenberg, the British singer-songwriter who records and performs as Passenger, signed to IE Music aged just 17. Having originally emerged fronting a band, his re-invention as a solo performer began with years of busking, largely in Australia. Then came a number of shows supporting Ed Sheeran. And then, in ‘Let Her Go’, a tune that topped charts in 20 countries around the world. Those who know only that single, which won an Ivor Novello and has clocked up a 1.4 billion Youtube hits, might be surprised to hear that there have also been seven albums, less ubiquitous but no less acclaimed, from Wicked Man’s Rest (2007) to Whispers (2014) and Whispers II (2015).

Passenger’s eighth album, Young as the Morning, Old as the Sea is a record of continuity but also of change. The exquisite songcraft and the distinctive delivery remain as before, because Rosenberg himself remains as before: thoroughly down to earth, responding to the size and scale of ‘Let Her Go’ with the mix of genuine humility and self-deprecating humour so evident in his onstage performances. (‘How amazing, in a lifetime, to have a song that’s got this big,’ he told Reuters at the Ivor Novellos. ‘I’m so happy. That’s a story to tell my grandkids. You know, I was number one in Luxembourg.’)

Support artist Lucy Rose (Stage time 2000-2030)

Born on June 28, 1989, Lucy Rose is an English singer and songwriter from Warwickshire. Her musical origins started when she played drums for her school orchestra while Rose’s songwriting began when she wrote tunes on their home piano. Rose is the youngest of three sisters and claims that she was not even the most musical one in the family. Her first try at songwriting was when she wrote an ode to her sick dog when she was 14 years old. She got disappointed when her pianist older sister showed dissatisfaction with the song by stating that it needed a key change. This resulted in her purchasing a guitar from the store she would pass by from school. She taught herself how to play the instrument and says that it made her feel different and free from her musically inclined family.

Rose’s musical journey didn’t start until when she was 18 and took a train to London. She was supposed to study geography at University College London but instead decided to work on her musical career. Rose started performing and experimenting with other local musicians when she became friends with Bombay Bicycle Club’s front man, Jack Steadman. With her guitar and strong dedication, Rose regularly went to open-mic nights where she was able to meet people who supported her craft and her dream.

Steadman later asked Rose to do vocals on a song he had written and was currently recording. The collaboration lead to Bombay Bicycle Club’s acoustic album Flaws that featured Steadman on lead vocals and Rose on back up. This paved the way for Rose’s musical career.
