Description

You are invited to the Passion Trust Conference 2019. For all people involved in putting on Passion Plays or interesting in getting involved. The only time of the year when directors, producers, actors, fundraisers, technicians and volunteers from all over the UK get together to talk about Passion Plays. Hear from the experts and get help and support from people who have been putting on the plays for years.


Saturday conference:

St Paul's and St George's Church is a wonderful conference venue in the city centre. Registration includes tea and coffee on arrival, as well as lunch and morning and afternoon refreshments throughout the day.


Optional Friday evening event:

You will have a warm welcome to Edinburgh's historic old town at an event with live music, drama, drinks and finger food. St Columbas by the Castle is in the heart of the city and an easy walking distance from Waverley Station.

Speakers include:

Kamala Santos

Kamala Santos wrote the script for ‘The Edinburgh Easter Play’, a large-scale traditional Passion Play performed in full costume in Princes Street Gardens in 2017. She created several characters who speak in contemporary Scots voices, the kind of language people who hear and use in conversation, to make a bridge from the original story to the 21st century.

Professor Jolyon Mitchell

Jolyon Mitchell is Professor of Communications, Arts and Religion at the University of Edinburgh. He directs a number of interdisciplinary research projects and was recently appointed a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (FRSA). He is currently working on a book titled 'Passion Play: The Mysterious Revivals of Religious Drama'.


Professor Helen Bond

Helen is the first female head of the School of Divinity at the University of Edinburgh. She studied at the University of St Andrews, then Tübingen and Durham. In 2015 she was appointed Professor of Christian Origins, the first female to hold any such post in Scotland.




Right Rev. Colin Sinclair

The Right Rev. Colin Sinclair is a minister of the Church of Scotland. He has served as Moderator of the General Assembly since May 2019. He has also served as the minister at Palmerston Place Church in Edinburgh since 1996. He has also served as International Chair of Scripture Union since 2004.
