Event Details

This is a one-day certificated portable appliance testing training course presented by Pat Testing Expert - Training led by Tim James. The course is suitable for those who wish to carry out PAT testing on their own equipment, or those who may wish to carry out PAT testing for others.

The trainer has been teaching people to carry out PAT Testing since 1993, and testing equipment for much longer - you will be learning from an expert! You will be shown how to test a wide range of appliances commonly found in workplaces and how to find expert advice if an item fails. The day will cover all of the legal requirements and provide you with practical tips, information and common-sense advice.

Intended schedule:

09:45 - 10:00 Introduction, Welcome and objectives
10:00 - 11:00 Background - The legal requirements - what exactly does the law require? What should be tested, and how often? Who is responsible for the testing, and who will be blamed if there is an accident?
11:00 - 11:15 BREAK
11:15 - 12:30 Electrical Appliances - What types of equipment do we have to test? Class 1 and Class 2 appliances. How to carry out a simple examination. Checking plugs, cables and fuses
12:30 - 1:30 LUNCH - Bring your own
1:30 - 2:45 Examination, Inspection and Testing. Demonstration and hands-on practical work - testing a variety of different appliances. Important notes of safety. Avoiding damage to equipment under test
2:45 - 3:00 BREAK
3:00 - 4:00 Examination, Inspection and Testing. More practicals and demonstrations, including testing ICT equipment
4:00 - 4:30 Conclusion and final discussion

All relevant legislation is covered during the day, as well as an overview of the latest IET Code of Practice (2012 edition) as well as guidance from the Health and Safety Executive and other bodies. Everyone will receive a set of course notes detailing everything that was covered during the day and is theirs to keep, should they need to refer back to it at any time. Following a successful completion of the course, each delegate will be issued with a competency certificate**.

The IPS is grateful to Hotcam for very generously making their premises and facilities available to host this event.

** Please note: If you are booking after 16:30 on Friday 30th of October this is a 'late' booking and so you will not get your named certificate at the end of the training day. It will be posted to you.

The organisers (the Institute of Professional Sound and or IPS Trading Limited) may find, for many reasons, that it is nessessary to change or amend the intended schedule and or facilities or even, without liability, cancel the event. Any known changes or amendments will be published on this site, and where or when possible registered attendees will be notified by email.
