Patchwork for Beginners 6-Week Course (Thetford)

During this 6 week course, you will undertake a different stage each week and by week six, you should have a finished quilt to be proud of!

You will learn all the skills you need to create your own patchwork quilt. This includes measuring and cutting, piecing with a sewing machine, quilting, making your own binding with lots of tips and tricks along the way.

You will be guided through everything from choosing the correct fabric to executing quilting techniques.

You will complete the course with all the knowledge you need to create your next patchwork project, as well as making new friends along the way.

Patchwork is incredible versatile and can be turned into anything from quilts to bags to clothing.

There will be the opportunity to practice and ask questions throughout the sessions. You will also be provided with handouts out in class and given references to online video support.

Who is the course for?

No specific patchwork experience is necessary, however if you have not used a sewing machine before, you will need to have access to a machine and you will benefit from attending one of our 'Get to Know your Sewing Machine' workshops.

Otherwise, you will be taught the techniques you need to complete your patchwork project.

The course is aimed for anyone who would like to make something a little different for their home or even to give as a gift.

Will I have to provide anything?

For these sessions, please bring along the following equipment:

The only essential piece of equipment to bring is your sewing machine.

All haberdashery and material will be provided. Please see below if you wish to purchase your own choice of fabrics.

• 3 x 0.5m of contracting fabrics (1.5m in total) - assorted colours and
• patterns including light, dark and contrast
• 1 x 0.25 binding fabric
• 1m x wadding
• 1m x backing fabric
• Sewing machine
• Sewing machine manual (if you have it)
• Sewing kit (thread, scissors, etc)
• Rotary cutter, cutting mat and acrylic ruler (these can be provided to use if required)

Alternatively, you could purchase through an online store such as Hobbycraft.
