Patents: an introduction for startups and small businesses
Event Information
About this event
As you build your business, you’re creating so much! From the words in your website, to your brand name and logo, your products themselves, new inventions perhaps – even the look of your packaging. In this workshop, we’ll give a brief overview of the different types of Intellectual Property (IP), then focus in on patents. It’s never too early to start thinking about your IP, and a little planning now can help stave off problems in the future.
In this 30-minute session, we’ll look at patents, which you can use to protect your inventions.
We'll cover:
- types of Intellectual Property (IP)
- what you can and can't patent in the UK
- the patent application process
- costs of taking out a patent
- the importance of confidentiality
- pros, cons and alternatives to patents.
By the end of this session, you’ll be better placed consider whether a patent is likely to be right for you and your business, and possible next steps.
This is a Zoom webinar - details will be sent to you 24 hours before the session via email.
The session will be recorded for BIPC Devon's archive. You are free to leave your cameras on or turn them off as you prefer. There will be a chance to ask questions throughout the session, which you can do by using the Zoom chat function or your microphone.
