PDA training for parents and professionals by Karen Whichello
Side by Side PDA Training aims to improve the understanding of PDA of parents, teachers or other professionals living or working with children or young people who have a diagnosis or are suspected as having PDA. It offers simple but effective strategies to enable happier outcomes for everyone.
It is a pre-requisite that all members of the Side by Side team are either parents, have close family members or have the conditions themselves as we believe it gives a unique and essential depth of knowledge and understanding.
The training is written and delivered by Karen Whichello, a mother of a child with this condition. Karen worked within a specialist autism school supporting children in the classroom with behaviour difficulties specialising in PDA and Autistic Spectrum Conditions. She co-wrote the article published in the 'The Good Schools Guide' on Pathological Demand Avoidance.
Training is delivered in a half day course and covers the following key areas:
• Understanding PDA and the diagnostic criteria
• How PDA differs from other Autism Spectrum Conditions
• How emotional intelligence can be taught to reduce anxiety
• Effective communication and enabling co-operation
• Strategies to improve learning outcomes both at home and at school
Fees include the workshop, a hard copy of the presentation to take away, lunch and all refreshments. You will also meet like-minded people you can share ideas with.
