Event description

Description

Inspiring Music

Sing some inspiring music with other experienced choral singers in the beautiful Suffolk market town of Framlingham. The course runs from 10.30 on Saturday 9 March until tea time on Sunday 10 March 2019.

The repertoire is inspired by the rich tradition of plainsong, with music by Praetorius, Ockeghem, Duruflé and Arvo Pärt.

There are places available for 28 singers, across all voice parts, and the emphasis will be on singing to the highest possible standard. Participants will be sent the music at the beginning of February, and should be comfortable singing unaccompanied and in multiple parts.

How to apply

Click the Tickets button above.

Singers will be asked to briefly describe their choral experience, and to specify their voice part. In order to achieve a balanced choir, decisions will be based on this information and places will be offered after the closing date of Friday 26 January 2019.

Payment

A deposit of £30.00 is payable on application, with a second payment of £42.00 payable on or by Friday 8 February 2019.

This will be refunded if it is not possible to offer a place on the course, otherwise the deposit is non-refundable.

Programme of the weekend

Plainsong

The spiritual power and beauty of plainsong has inspired generations of composers since its medieval origins. The weekend’s programme will explore this rich heritage.

Magnificat

We sing two very different settings of the Magnificat – one by the north German composer Praetorius (1560-1629) and the other by the Estonian, Arvo Pärt (1935-).

Motet

Maurice Duruflé (1902-1986) spent his life as a liturgical musician, and his masterworks reflect a love affair with chant. We sing his four Gregorian motets.

Kyrie

We sing two sublime settings of the Kyrie by Johannes Ockeghem (1410-1497) and Frank Martin (1890-1974), both inspired by chant.
