Description

Maan's 2018 Annual General Meeting is combined with a conference aimed at stimulating conversations, around mental health and well-being, with people from Sheffield's Somali community.

Registration for the event is at 10.00 am. The conference opens at 10.30 am and ends at 2.45 pm.

Lunch and refreshment will be provided. Time has been allocated for prayer time.

Come along and take part in an event where you can contribute to dialogue promoting positive mental health and well-being across Somali communities in Sheffield.

Maan aims to create a platform for dialogue, active listening and collaboration by bringing together Somali community members and organisations along with voluntary, community and faith organisations, NHS, local authority health and social care providers.

The aim of this conference is to provide a space for people with lived experiences of the issues and others to identify priorities and areas of action where work across agencies can lead to change.

Conference Objectives:

  • Explore ways that mental health services are accessed by Somali community members

  • Discuss views of mental health held by different parts of Sheffield’s Somali community

  • Increase understanding of culturally sensitive approaches and services to improve pathways supporting mental health and well-being of the Somali community

  • Networking opportunities between statutory staff and organisations/communities

This conference will offer opportunities to participate in informative community engagement.
