Description

The London Interdisciplinary Biosciences Consortium (LIDo), one of the largest BBSRC funded Doctoral Training Partnerships in the UK, is hosting a free one day event for potential research students who identify as black or minority ethnic.

This event aims to increase the number BME candidates making informed and well-prepared applications to high profile Doctoral Training Programmes by providing a unique platform to receive advice and coaching, to ask questions and engage with relatable student role models.

The day will include opportunities to hear from LIDo students, academics and alumni, as well as the chance to participate in structured workshops addressing application writing, interviewing and presentation skills.

9:45-10:15 REGISTRATION/COFFEE

10:15-10:30 Introduction

10:30-11:15 Current PhD Student talks and Q&A

11:15-11:30 BREAK

11:30-12:30 Panel discussion on PhD applications and interviews with academics and current students

12:30-13:30 LUNCH

13:30-15:30 Workshops with academics, students and careers specialists on CV/applications, interview technique and presentations

15:30 – 16:00 Round-up/coffee/Q&A

If you have to travel more than 25 miles to get to Queen Mary, we will have some funds available to reimburse travel (economy travel within the UK only).

Please note that this event is aimed towards BME candidates wishing to apply to science-based PhDs, so other students may find that not all content is relevant to them.
