Description

Pathways to Prosperity 2: Beneath the Surface (Reaching the Places Most Programmes Cannot Reach)

Increasingly, we understand that to better serve our communities and create better outcomes we need to engage with People and Place on a more than superficial level. But how to effectively do that?

In this interactive session, you will hear from three different perspectives about what it really means to get beneath the surface and engage with communities in a meaningful way.

First of all, Diarmaid Lawlor of Architecture and Design Scotland will give the physical environment view, reflecting on how buildings and public spaces can either empower or disempower people in their vicinity.

Next, Eleanor Campbell will talk about the experience of WEvolution in aiding the formation of sustainable self-reliant groups in misunderstood neighbourhoods.

Last but not least, George Thomson of Volunteer Scotland will share the fascinating insights gleaned from his recent research project for the Open University on what real community engagement looks like.

We look forward to welcoming you and hearing your own experiences too…
