Patrick Geddes: A Botanist by Design? A Riddle's Court Event
Wed 22 March 2017, 13:00 – 16:30 GMT
Patrick Geddes: A Botanist by Design?
From his rural Perthshire upbringing via his Professorship at University College, Dundee, botany played a central role in Patrick Geddes' life and work. This Riddle's Court event in partnership with the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh (RBGE), will include a tour of the herbarium building and, uniquely, will reveal some of Geddes' own botanical collections.
This is the fifth Riddle's Court themed study event in advance of the Patrick Geddes Centre for Learning opening in the fully restored venue in September 2017. The afternoon will include a guided visit of the RBGE Herbarium with herbarium curator Lesley Scott and tropical botanist Dr Peter Wilkie, who will speak about the herbarium collection more widely and its importance to science and conservation today. Attendees will also have a unique opportunity to see a range of specimens Patrick Geddes collected whilst in Mexico in 1879.
