Scotland is known for many things: bagpipes, kilts, whisky. But we’re missing a trick by not placing first and foremost the intellectual achievements of the Enlightenment. However, much of the essence of those times, exemplified by the likes of Adam Smith's Theory of Moral Sentiments, has been forgotten or ignored. More than ever the world is in need of renewal as it faces multiple challenges.
Come and join us at the Library of Mistakes for a discussion between Patrick Schotanus (originator of the Market Mind Hypothesis) and Enda Delaney (Head of Research in the Edinburgh Futures Institute). Not only will they be discussing just how revolutionary were the ideas of Smith, David Hume and Francis Hutcheson; most importantly, they’ll chart their application in today’s world alongside plans to kickstart a new initiative – the Alliance for New Economic Enlightenment – a world-leading education hub for revitalising economics by reigniting, through via teaching, research, events, and practical applications, the intellectual curiosity and innovative spirit of the Scottish Enlightenment.
