About this event
This is a follow-on to the Beginners Pattern Drafting & Cutting Course. An intermediate and more creative course - 'Creating Shape and Volume'.
This is suitable for people who have attended a prior pattern drafting course, with me or elsewhere, and already have a personalised draft or block that fits. Or people that work with ready-made blocks. This course is not for beginners as you must have a basic block or a draft that already works as a sizing blue-print. And delegates must have fair to extensive knowledge in clothes assembly. So that you can assemble the patterns that you generate.
This is a four day course and is split into day-pairs. Two-days teaching followed by a 14 day break for independent sewing/learning time. Followed by two-days teaching to complete.
The advantage of this 'gapped' delivery is that it takes away the time pressure. You will be doing lots of work in the sessions but will also be given independent homework tasks. The two week gap means that you have time to stop, rest, reflect, repeat, correct, explore the independent work.
The course covers silhouette development and also sleeve adaptations, as well as moving into circular-cutting. There is also opportunity to develop a design idea of your own and have me assist you in producing the patterns - depending on how you progress.
The course will be held at the Burton Street Foundation, home to scenes from the film 'The Full Monty'. A lovely site featuring historical period buildings and situated in the thriving suburb of Hillsborough, Sheffield. https://burtonstreet.org.uk/about/
It is a 15min tram-ride from the city centre and virtually door-to-door from the train station, via the tram. There is also first-come-first served free parking at the site and also on-street parking free of charge. The venue has accommodation within 5min walking distance at the historical Garrison Hotel, for anybody wanting to make a weekend of it. https://garrisonhotel.co.uk/
The course will run 10am-4pm on a Friday and Saturday, with a group lunch organised at a local cafe or restaurant in the suburb. There are dozens of independent cafes, bistros and bakeries within a 2minute walk of the venue, aswell as a large park 10 minutes away. And on one of the lunch breaks you will be escorted and left at a fabric and haberdashery shop that's just 3minutes away..., for anybody wanting to add to their fabric treasure trove.
Pattern paper is provided, but delegates must bring their own calico, previous drafting equipment and sewing machines.
