Patterns From the Door Jambs of Orvieto
Overview
In this exciting new two-part online class you will learn how to construct with ruler and compass a selection of incredibly beautiful geometric mosaic patterns inspired by those found in the door jambs of Orvieto Cathedral in Italy.
This two-day live-online event takes place via Zoom on Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd February from 4pm to 7pm (GMT/London time) each day.
***Please note: There is no requirement to attend the 'live' sessions. The session recordings will be made available to all ticket holders within 48 hours. There is no time limit for completion. Subtitles will be available.***
Although it is preferable to have some basic knowledge of geometric drawing, the workshop would be suitable for beginners in ruler and compass construction who are up for a challenge.
Please scroll to the bottom for the full list of required equipment.
A brief summary of the sessions:
On Saturday we will explore a selection of elegant 'sixfold' mosaic patterns from the main arch and twisted 'Solomonic' columns that surround the cathedral doors.
On Sunday we will turn our attention to a selection of 'fourfold' patterns, including a stunning mosaic knot design.
Accessing the workshop live
The workshop requires you to use Zoom, a free video conferencing app. Please be prepared to log into the online session 10 minutes beforehand, to ensure a prompt start.
You will be emailed the Zoom meeting link the day before the session, with a reminder of any equipment needed (see below). This information will also be accessible via the Online Event Page.
If you do not receive the email, please check your spam folder and your Eventbrite email preferences in your account settings, before contacting the organiser.
As explained above, if you are not able to attend the sessions 'live', please be assured that the session recordings will be made available to you within 48 hours.
