“You're addicted to what? - Exploring the myths and stigma that surround sex and porn addiction”

Venue: Addaction, 67-69 Cowcross Street, London, EC1M 6PU

Many people don’t believe that sex or pornography can become addictive and consider those who claim to be are simply struggling with poor impulse control or are using the addiction label as an excuse to let them off their poor moral behaviour.

In this captivating talk, the UKs leading sex addiction expert Paula Hall will look at the reality of sex and porn addiction from the perspective of a psychotherapist who specialises in the topic and the stories of the clients she regularly sees.

Sex and porn addiction can affect anyone, young and old, male and female, single or partnered, but the reasons, the consequences and the desire to stop can vary enormously. During this talk, there’ll also be a chance to hear the growing challenges facing young people today who have been brought up with internet porn and the struggles many of them face to develop a fulfilling sexual identity and sex life.

With an estimated 1 in 20 people struggling with sex or porn addiction, if this talk isn’t personally relevant to you, then it probably will be to someone you know. Porn addiction has been described as a modern day pandemic, leading to sexual dysfunctions, infidelity, broken relationships, damaged academic achievement and career progression, financial debt and personal devastation including anxiety, depression and even suicide. But through education, we as a society can change that.
