Event description
Pause Look Relax more deeply... with mindful drawing exercises

About this event

'Pause Look Relax & Draw' brings together mindful drawing and meditation, with a gallery artwork as our focus.

We’ll explore drawing as a tool for looking closely at art, to deepen your connection with the artwork and with your responses to it. The practice of drawing helps to focus our looking and bring us into mindfulness: when we’re drawing, we come into the present moment, aware of the touch of pencil on paper and our sensations of sight.

What to expect from the session?

This 60-minute session starts with a short meditation practice, to settle the mind and prepare for drawing. You’ll then be guided to look closely at an artwork, and explore the image through observational drawing and abstract drawn responses. The session closes with an opportunity to reflect on the experience and engage with some art historical context. All welcome: no experience required with art, mindfulness or drawing.

What to bring to the session?

Please have ready the following materials:

  • 3-5 sheets of paper, A4 or larger
  • two graphite pencils (preferably of different grades, for example HB and 6B)
  • a little water in a cup or jar

Looking closely at drawings

Drawing is the focus for three Limina Collective events in October, to coincide with The Big Draw Festival 2021. Please also join our 30-minute mindful looking events, Pause Look Relax. These sessions invite you to look closely at one drawing, with mindfulness.
