A half-day symposium exploring sustainable use of land and materials, with contributions from architects, suppliers and academics.

About this Event

Join speakers from Liverpool John Moores University, shedkm, dRMM and amid.cero9 as we discuss building for the future.

This half-day event will take place in a purpose-built marquee to showcase works by LJMU students who have worked on redesigning and repurposing parts of Hamilton Square. This exhibition, Potential of Density, will be open to the public from the 8th November and will close with this symposium event on the 13th November.

This symposium will finish with the opening of the Wooden Parliament. This temporary pavilion was designed by the Spanish architects Cristina Diaz Moreno and Efren Garcia Grinda, founders of the practice amid.cero9 and sponsored by FINSA.

Programme:

12:00 Tour of Birkenhead Park with Professor Robert Lee

Professor Robert Lee’s research at the University of Liverpool’s Department of History explores the historic development of parks and open spaces in Liverpool which contribute to community development, education, biodiversity, public health and urban regeneration.

13:00 Panel discussion on the challenges of planning, building, utilising land available and how this has an impact in the community

Panellists include Darren Jones from shedkm, Dominic Wilkinson from LJMU, Liam Kelly from MAKE CIC and Sophie Meadley from Kazimier

14:00 In-conversation with dRMM and amid.cero9

Raphael Villiermet of dRMM, and Cristina Diaz Moreno and Efren Garcia Grinda of amid.cero9 will discuss the challenges of designing a sustainable building and working with timber - the material of the future. Chaired by Suzy Jones.

15:00 Official opening of the Wooden Parliament at Birkenhead Park (with architects Amid.cero9)
