Building our union strategy for net zero workplaces
About this event
As we move on from the COP26 climate talks in Glasgow, it's time to reflect on the many announcements made by the UK and devolved Governments on their net zero decarbonisation strategies in the past months. This includes how we transition the economy to net zero, and PCS workplaces within that.
The forum will look at the net zero plans of government departments, public bodies and private sector employers of PCS members, and how we can organise to bargain for real sustainable workplaces. It will also look at how the civil service - UK and devolved government - is organised to deliver on their economic decarbonisation targets and what we can do to advocate for 'climate jobs' such as through a National Climate Service to achieve these ends.
The discussion is framed within our demands for climate justice that we supported as part of the COP 26 mobilisations. This means linking our ‘green’ aims with the unions’ equality and anti-racist campaigning, support for refugees and migrant rights, and the need to acknowledge in our responses to climate change, the disproportional impacts on frontline and vulnerable communities in the UK and more specifically the global south.
