About this Event

On the 27th March 2020, The 9th Lincolnshire PE, School Sport and Physical Activity Conference will be hosted by Bishop Grosseteste University, organised by Active Lincolnshire in partnership with the One Network.

The conference is for anyone involved in School PE, School Sport and Physical Activity and brings together industry specialists to inspire, inform and celebrate the great work that is being done in the county.

The theme of the PESSPA conference will ask delegates to consider PE, School Sport and Physical Activity as the golden thread to wider educational outcomes. Secondary School delegates will hear keynotes from the Lincolnshire Learning Partnership and a Lincolnshire Ofsted Inspector alongside a programme of interactive sessions delivered by the Youth Sport Trust, with a focus on:

- The 3 x Is of your PE curriculum - using the Youth Sport Trust’s National Curriculum Blueprint for physical education, this session will ask you to consider the intent, implementation and impact of your PE curriculum. It will support you to consider the outcomes of a high-quality physical education curriculum including physical and personal outcomes and how to plan a curriculum that provides these.

- Reframing Competition- explore how competitive school sport can be designed and delivered to support all young people develop character, physical competence and wider personal and social outcomes. There will be specific connection to the Education Inspection Framework, as well as sharing of insight gathered from research into global and domestic practice in relation to the use of competition to support children develop.

- Deep Dive in PE- Using insights from schools who have experienced a deep dive in PE, delegates will unpick specific questions linked to the 3 x Is, allowing reflection on current strengths and areas for development .

As part of the conference fee, secondary delegates will also receive 12 x personal development poster to bring to life the personal development agenda in school, regular YST updates through monthly newsletters and termly magazines and an England Hockey kit bag.

Delegates will enjoy a buffet lunch and have plenty of opportunities to network during refreshment breaks and over lunch.

Workshop 1

Re-framing competition - Competition as a means of personal development

Delivered by Kate Thornton-Bousfield, Head of PE and Achievement, Youth Sport Trust

Is your competition and enrichment offer accessible for all? Do all pupils benefit from the outcomes of competition?

This session will look at the extensive work the Youth Sport Trust has undertaken in looking at making competition and enrichment available to all pupils and will offer schools the opportunity to share good practice in how you can achieve appropriate competition at all levels.

Workshop 2

Introduction to curriculum blueprint, personal development agenda and deep dives in PE

Delivered by the Youth Sport Trust

What is the intent of Physical Education in your school? Does your curriculum meet this intent? Is your curriculum broad and balanced? Does it allow for depth of knowledge? Does it allow for whole person development?

This session will allow delegates to look at the quality of education provided by the physical education curriculum offer in their school. It will support delegates in planning a curriculum that scaffolds and sequences learning. The session will also cover what to expect in a deep dive and the role physical education plays in the personal development agenda.

Workshop 4

In relation to Physical Activity: The Ofsted Framework, the inspection process and what Ofsted are looking for.

Delivered by Matt Spoors, Lincolnshire County Council

This workshop will cover the key elements of the new Ofsted Framework and how PE and sport will be evaluated. It will also cover aspects of inspection methodology including deep dives and ideas to support colleagues through the process.
