Description

NEWS - please note this date has now changed to Saturday 29th June 2019 at 10.00am to meet up

To mark the 100th anniversary of the signing of peace treaty to end the First World War, the Historical Research Group of Sittingbourne is organising a Peace Day Celebration Parade, on Saturday 29th June 2019 at 10.00am. This will coincide with Sittingbourne Armed Forces Day. The aim of this event is to provide the community with a visual representation of the number of local men and one woman who died during the conflict. Each name will be represented on a banner from his parish and where possible a story carried by either a relative, or a member of the community who would like to commemorate and remember that individual’s contribution to the world we enjoy, because of their sacrifice.

This will include the town (Sittingbourne and Milton) and all the surrounding villages:

Bapchild, Bobbing, Borden, Bredgar, Doddington, Frinsted, Hartlip, Iwade, Kingsdown, Lower Halstow, Lynsted, Milstead, Murston, Newington, Newnham, Norton Buckland and Stone, Rainham, Rodmersham, Stockbury, Teynham, Tonge, Tunstall and Upchurch.

If you would like to take part in the parade and carry one of the names / banners, please regitser for a free ticket. Currently we have identified 1151 names from the local parishes, which will be carried on 40 banners. To check if your family name or relative is there, please check our website: http://www.hrgs.co.uk/parish-memorials-all/

If you have a specific name you wish to represent please contact us separately: http://www.hrgs.co.uk/contact-us/
