Wild Mushroom Walk at Ladybower (with Embodied Foraging)

Join us for a slow-paced, sensory exploration through the ancient woodlands of Ladybower Reservoir — a stunning landscape rich in autumn colour, woodland biodiversity, and a wide variety of fungi.

This event is about seasonal awareness, deepening your knowledge of mushrooms, and learning how to engage with the wild in a mindful and respectful way. You’ll be guided through the basics of mushroom recognition, including features to look for, habitat clues, and relationships between fungi and trees. Expect an introduction to boletes, Russulas, medicinal species, and more, depending on what nature offers us on the day.

We’ll also touch on Embodied Foraging, a gentle, sensory-based practice that helps deepen your connection to the woodland through movement, smell, touch, and stillness. This is not just about what you find, but how you experience being out in the woods.

Ladybower is a place of outstanding natural beauty, and we’ll be moving at a pace that lets us pause, explore, and engage fully with our surroundings.

Practical Info:

The walk covers around one to two miles, but we take our time and may venture off the main paths. Please be aware: the terrain includes inclines, tree roots, and can be muddy or slippery after rain.Sturdy boots or wellies and waterproofs are essential.

We'll stop somewhere scenic for lunch, bring a packed lunch and drink.

Please note: Fires and cooking are not permitted at this location.

Mushroom foraging courses. Foraging for mushrooms, you will learn to slow down, to connect with the forest and understand how species connect with each other. Learn how the mycorrhizal species help the trees to gather nutrients and support each other, how the saprotrophic species break down dead matter in a way that no other thing in nature can do. The format of a forage course is to liven your palate with a sample or a few of gins made from wild ingredients, gaultheria or sloe or pinecone and many more. Tastes to blow your mind. Then, staffs in hand, a forage walk/ A slow paced wander through the woods, learning about the fungi we find and collecting some in our baskets for the fry up at the end where we get to taste the treats we find. A forage walk is overflowing with wellbeing and mindfulness and is a welcome break from our busy lives.
