Event description

Description

Come and sing Handel's Messiah in Peckham!

Come to All Saints Church on Saturday 16th September 2017, and our excellent guest conductor, Rupert Bond, will lead you in a fun but challenging all-day choral workshop, culminating in a performance at 7pm, as part of the Peckham Festival. We have some great soloists lined up, some based in Peckham, another coming from Belgium(!), and an orchestra of local professional and experienced amateur musicians. Visual arts and spoken word will also feature in this community event, bringing together a variety of local artistic talent. Whether you've sung this many times before, or just love singing and would like to have a go, you are very welcome. So don't be shy, come and enjoy singing the highlights of this great piece of music, and bring your friends and family along to watch - it's completely free to participants and audience alike. Tickets for the audience may be booked in advance at peckhammessiahtickets.eventbrite.co.uk. Spaces are limited, so book early to avoid disappointment!

FAQs

What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the event?

There are very good public transport links to Peckham. Trains to/from London Bridge, Clapham Junction, Elephant & Castle and London Victoria regularly stop at Peckham Rye station, which is directly opposite the church. Several bus routes also serve Peckham Rye station, and the P13 bus stops directly outside the church. The nearby Choumert Grove car park is free on a Saturday, and on-street parking is also available on Blenheim Grove and nearby. If you require a disabled parking space (there is step-free access into the church), please contact the organiser directly to arrange parking on the church site, which is strictly limited, so please do not park there unless you have made a prior arrangement.

How can I contact the organiser with any questions?

Email peckhammessiah@allsaintspeckham.org.uk.

Do I have to bring a ticket to the event?

No, we will keep a list of names and can sign you in from that.

Will refreshments be provided?

Yes, there will be tea/coffee breaks during both morning and afternoon sessions, with a light lunch served in between. Dinner will also be provided for those who wish to stay around between the workshop and performance, but you will be free to go home during this time or to make your own arrangements if you prefer.

I'm under 18, can I still come?

We warmly welcome singers of all ages, but cannot provide the necessary supervision for under 16s at this event. For this reason, please bring a responsible adult with you if you are under 16. If you are aged 16 or 17, you do not need to bring a responsible adult with you, but we will require an emergency contact number (e.g. parent/guardian) on registration. If you have any questions about this, please contact us directly on the email address above.

What is the rehearsal schedule?

9:30am Registration

10am - 1pm Choir rehearsal (with tea break)

1pm - 2pm Lunch

2pm - 5pm Orchestra and soloists join the choir to rehearse

5:30pm - 6:30pm Dinner

Do I need to prepare beforehand?

There is no requirement to practise your part, it will all be rehearsed on the day. However, you may access vocal scores online if you wish to, and YouTube is full of recordings which you can sing along with, if you feel that you will enjoy the event more having done some preparation.
