Description

The Academy for Education and Professional Development: Pedagogy Seminar Series:

Using Swivl remote camera technology to supervise and assess the practicum

Date: Tuesday 28th November

Time: 12.00-1.00

Location: A V Hill Building Room 1.006

Delivered by: Professor Wendy Mccracken and Helen Chilton, Lecturer in Deaf Education

This seminar focusses on the use of remote technology to supervise and assess learners on programmes with a practicum element. We will share our findings from the establishment of an entirely remote supervision route used with training Teachers of the Deaf on teaching placement. We will consider how the technology enabled us to overcome geographical distance but also how the new framework for supervision supported learners to become reflective practitioners and critically appraise their work. We will explain how the technology works, the challenges we encountered and the additional uses we have found for the technology within our day to day teaching.

The Academy for Education and Professional Development’s mission is “To ensure consistent high-quality development and delivery of educational programmes with student experience at their heart”. Academy events are open to all those who contribute to the development, delivery and management of FBMH undergraduate, postgraduate and continuing professional development programmes including staff from across the University, the Manchester Academic Health Science Centre and our NHS clinical education partners. The Pedagogy Seminar Series provides a forum to discuss research undertaken and/or pedagogy literature of interest.
