FAQs

What is PedX? A fun, informal, professional development event for teachers to share great ideas one-to-one with other teachers while developing their own 'personal learning network'. The purpose is to enable teachers to discover successful strategies, exchange pedagogical approaches while developing a supportive community.

Is it like a TeachMeet? Not exactly. It has two distinct differences from a TeachMeet, there are no stand up presentations in front of an audience and the event is organised to suit the needs of every individual participant rather than just a few.

What should I expect? You are guaranteed to gain lots of interesting ideas for Teaching & Learning that you could use in your classroom the very next day in an amazing location. Pedagogy Exchange also provides you with opportunities to grow your 'personal learning network' - meaning you get to meet people who are solving the same challenges you face in your teaching. This is not a sales event, so absolutely no sales presentations please.

What do I need to bring? To participate, everyone is required to bring at least one teaching & learning idea to share with other educators. This might include a strategy you've just started using, a resource you've developed yourself over a period of time, a trip or visit you organised for your learners, a classroom display, an approach that you feel has had an impact on learning or a tool that really helps you. It can be for any aspect of teaching and learning, eg. planning, assessment, question and answering and any curriculum subject but it needs to be something that you have actually used yourself in your teaching as you will be asked questions about how you use it. It really doesn't matter if you're not too proud of it, as another teacher might be really interested in it. For printed resources - try to bring some printed copies for others to take away. Consider sharing photographs in an online gallery of the technique or outcomes. For online resources, try to use a custom URL shortening tool like http://bit.ly or http://tinyurl.com to create an easy to remember link to the resource.

Can I present to the audience? Not at this event. Apart from a welcome, introductions and some messages from our hosts, all presentations will be either one-to-one or two-to-one, a little like speed-dating.

What does the ticket price include? The ticket price of £5 includes all activities, refreshments and a preview tour of The British Music Experience (normal entry cost £16) If you would like to eat something before the event, The Star Cafe in the British Music Experience provides a range of food and drink.

What if I don't use Twitter or Facebook? There is no compulson to use either of these. Some teachers find them useful services to connect with other teachers. If you're opposed to using them, it's not a problem, but bear in mind we'll share photos of the event on social media to encourage more teachers to attend future events.

What are my transport/parking options getting to the event? There are limited pay and display spaces by the Liver Building on St Nicholas Place and Water Street and several secure car parks around the area within easy walking distance, specifically at Liverpool One and the Albert Dock. Parking charges apply. More suggestions for travel here on the British Music Experience website.
