These courses are provided free for Derbyshire (UK) residents, you will need to provide a valid Derbyshire based home address.

About this Event

A sideways look at the contrasts of the Dark and White Peak and an opportunity to share some less well known little gems

Approximate course length: 2 hours

This course is for:

Anyone with an interest in the Peak District who wants to learn a bit more about it.

The course will cover:

  • • An introduction to the geology of the Peak District
  • • Some key historical events
  • • A detailed look at a selection of well-known and less well -known locations in the Peak District
  • • A discussion about the best ways to explore Britain’s first national park.
  • This course will be delivered remotely via Zoom so you will be part of a live class, with a tutor, but with everyone doing the lessons at their own home.
  • There are no exams or formal assessments. There will be chance to ask questions and discuss topics with other learners and the tutor.

Work outside of sessions:

This is not required, though we hope you will want to put what you have learned into practice.

Additional costs and what to prepare:

This course is offered free of charge and there are no other costs.You will need either a smart phone, tablet, laptop or other computer with internet access to take part in sessions. The taster course will be delivered on Zoom, so you will need to create a Zoom account in advance of the course.

You will be sent an email at least 24 hours before your Zoom course is due to start with joining instructions.

Progression from this course:

You may wish to progress to further courses to improve your knowledge of the Peak District and wider Derbyshire countryside such as ‘Map Reading’, ‘Trig Point Charlie’, ‘Narrow Boat Voyage’ or an ‘Discover our Waterways’. Alternatively, you might want to come on a course that enables you to express your experiences creatively such as ‘Printmaking – Local Landscapes’.
